An NDR electrician working at an open electrical switchboard

Safety switches & RCDs. Gold Coast.

Know which circuits are protected.

Arrange an assessment of your safety switches, discuss additional protection and understand what a recurring trip needs.

Unsure about your
safety-switch protection?

Seeing switches in a board does not tell you which circuits have safety-switch protection. A safety switch, also called an RCD, detects current leakage and helps protect people against electric shock. Protection applies to the circuits connected to that device.

NDR assesses safety switches and RCDs for Gold Coast homes and businesses, including installation, replacement and testing as required. Start with what has prompted your enquiry: an older board, new equipment, a failed test or repeated tripping.

The assessment should identify the protection already present and the work recommended. If the wider switchboard also needs attention, NDR can explain that separately within the proposed scope.

Describe the issue
so the right work can be assessed.

For a planned upgrade, list any new appliances or circuits and say whether the property is a home, rental or business. Include a photograph of the normally accessible front of the switchboard if it is safe to take one. Keep covers in place.

For a trip, note which device operated and what was running at the time. Repeated trips need fault finding; do not assume that replacing the switch will fix the underlying problem. Call to explain the symptoms and discuss the appropriate assessment.

Ask which circuits the proposed work covers and what testing is included. That gives you a more useful basis for a decision than comparing the price of a device on its own.

Excellent pricing, high-quality workmanship, and a very efficient installation. The entire team was professional and friendly—from the office staff through to the tradesmen and even the youngest apprentice. Communication was excellent throughout the process, the work was completed to a very high standard, and everything was left clean and tidy afterwards. I couldn’t be happier with the result and would highly recommend them.

A few questions,
before you book.

Answers to common questions about circuit coverage, RCDs, tripping and installation costs.

Do you offer electrical safety inspections and testing?

Yes! We provide electrical safety inspections, testing, fault finding and compliance assessments for residential, rental and commercial properties.

Do I need a switchboard upgrade?

If your switchboard is outdated, overloaded or unable to support additional electrical equipment, an upgrade may be recommended. We can inspect and advise.

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes! We offer free, no-obligation quotes across all our services, including electrical, solar, battery and EV charging.

Is a safety switch the same as a circuit breaker?

No. A safety switch detects current leakage to help protect people from electric shock. A circuit breaker protects a circuit against excessive current. Some devices combine these functions. NDR can identify what is installed and explain which circuits have RCD protection.

Does one safety switch protect the whole house?

Only the circuits connected to it are protected. Other circuits may have separate devices or no RCD protection. An electrician can check coverage and discuss any additional protection required. Do not judge the whole installation from the appearance or number of switches alone.

What should I do if the safety switch keeps tripping?

Arrange an assessment and describe when the trip happens and what was being used. Repeated resetting is not a repair. Leave a repeatedly tripping device off and contact an electrician; the problem may involve the device, wiring or connected equipment.

How much does safety-switch installation cost?

The number and type of circuits, the existing board and any associated wiring work determine the scope. Replacing a device may involve different work from adding protection to several circuits. Send your suburb and the reason for the enquiry so NDR can advise what needs assessment for a quote.

Will fitting safety switches require a whole new switchboard?

That depends on the existing installation. Some jobs involve changes within the current board; others require broader upgrades. NDR can explain the findings, the recommended work and its purpose before you make a decision. A photograph may help the initial enquiry, but cannot establish the complete condition.

What should a rental or business enquiry include?

Include the property address, access contact, the reason for the assessment and any existing inspection reports you can share. For a business, mention operating hours and equipment affected by a power interruption. This helps define the work and arrange appropriate access without assuming a standard scope.
