An NDR electrician working at an open electrical switchboard

Switchboard
upgrades. Gold Coast.

Plan the power behind your next project.

Understand your existing switchboard, the changes your property needs and the quoted scope before adding equipment or upgrading the supply.

Adding equipment
or updating an older board?

A renovation, new air conditioner or EV charger is a good reason to check what your electrical installation can support. An older board or a switch that keeps tripping also deserves assessment. The right response depends on the cause and the existing installation.

NDR assesses switchboards and carries out board and supply upgrades for Gold Coast homes and businesses. The work may involve selected changes or a replacement board. We explain what is recommended and how it relates to the equipment you use or plan to add.

Tell us about future plans as well as today’s job. Solar, batteries, charging and other large electrical loads should be considered when defining the scope.

  • Board replacement where required

  • Safety switches and RCD protection

  • Circuit-breaker changes

  • Surge protection options

  • Single-to-three-phase upgrades

  • Planning for new electrical equipment

Understand what is included
before comparing quotes.

Switchboard condition, circuit numbers, protection, cable access and any associated wiring changes all affect the work. A quote for another property may cover a different installation. Ask which changes are included and whether supply or network coordination is needed.

Safety switches help protect people against electric shock, while circuit breakers respond to excessive current. Surge protection has a different role again: it helps manage transient overvoltage affecting equipment. These functions need to be considered together; one does not replace the others.

Switchboard work generally needs a planned power interruption. Tell us about business trading hours, access restrictions and equipment that must remain powered. If sending a photo, photograph only the normally accessible front of the board; leave covers in place.

Excellent pricing, high-quality workmanship, and a very efficient installation. The entire team was professional and friendly—from the office staff through to the tradesmen and even the youngest apprentice. Communication was excellent throughout the process, the work was completed to a very high standard, and everything was left clean and tidy afterwards. I couldn’t be happier with the result and would highly recommend them.

A few questions,
before you book.

Understand cost factors, supply changes, protection and planning for a power interruption.

Do I need a switchboard upgrade?

If your switchboard is outdated, overloaded or unable to support additional electrical equipment, an upgrade may be recommended. We can inspect and advise.

Read our switchboard upgrade guide
Can you upgrade my home from single-phase to three-phase power?

Yes! We provide single-phase to three-phase electrical upgrades, including switchboard modifications and coordination with relevant electricity providers.

Do you offer electrical safety inspections and testing?

Yes! We provide electrical safety inspections, testing, fault finding and compliance assessments for residential, rental and commercial properties.

Can I install an EV charger with single-phase power?

Yes! Most homes with single-phase power can accommodate a compatible EV charger, subject to available electrical capacity and network requirements.

Do I need three-phase power for a 22kW charger?

Yes, a 22kW AC charger requires a suitable three-phase electrical supply. We can assess your property and arrange a three-phase upgrade if required.

Will I need a switchboard upgrade for an EV charger?

Not always! Our electricians assess your existing switchboard and electrical capacity to determine whether any upgrades are required for safe installation.

How much does a switchboard upgrade cost?

The number of circuits, board condition, protection needed and associated wiring work affect the price. Access, supply changes and the equipment being added can also change the scope. NDR can assess your installation and provide a free quote, explaining the work proposed before you decide.

Is surge protection the same as a safety switch?

No. Surge protection addresses transient overvoltage that can affect equipment. A safety switch responds to current leakage to help protect people against electric shock. Ask about both when the switchboard is assessed; installing one does not establish that the other protection is present.

Does a switch that keeps tripping mean I need a new switchboard?

A trip does not by itself establish that the whole board needs replacement. Record which switch trips and what was in use, then arrange fault assessment. Do not keep resetting a device that repeatedly trips. NDR can explain whether the issue calls for a repair, a protection change or broader work.

How long will the power be off?

The duration depends on the agreed scope, access and any associated supply or wiring work. Confirm the expected interruption for your property when the job is arranged. Tell the team about equipment and activities affected by a shutdown so these can be considered in planning.

Can an upgrade be planned around solar, batteries or an EV charger?

Yes. Send the proposed equipment details or explain what you are considering. The current switchboard, supply and circuit arrangements need to be reviewed alongside those plans. An assessment establishes what work is required; a new system does not automatically mean a full board replacement.
